The Power of 48 minutes などの記事でも紹介されていましたが、このテクニックは１時間を 48 分と 12 分に分割して、48分間はすべての雑音をシャットアウトして集中して仕事を片付けていき、その後12分間リラックスしてトイレにいったり、コーヒーを飲んだり、ちょっとメールをチェックしたりするというものです。

たったこれだけのテクニックですが、リンク先のブログにはこのテクニックを1日４回実行させることで、200ページの本を２週間で書き上げた人の話も紹介されていて、仕事のペースを作るのには非常に役立ちます。48分:12分 の分け方も恣意的ですが、実際にやってみると良い目安となっています。私の意志が弱いだけかもしれませんが、どうも集中力というのは１時間ちょうどではなく、せいぜい１時間弱しかもたないようです。

このテクニックが有効なのは、やる気や集中力を燃え尽きる直前のところで制御するという点にあります。私などは一度に仕事を詰め込みすぎるとかえって急速に燃え尽きてしまい、なんだかいやになって現実逃避にウェブをさまよい始めるという悪癖がありますので、このテクニックは割と頻繁に使います。

注意したいのはこの12分の休息は義務だということです。「おっ、調子がいいからこのまま続けよう」という発想で 48 分のリミットを超えて仕事を続けると、あとでガクッとエネルギーが足りなくなる傾向があるようです。
